At Loews Philadelphia, the pampering starts when you check in. Dogs are given a goody bag with toys and treats. Inside the room is an oversized doggie bed with clean linens. You can also order room service for your dog or bring him to the hotel restaurant at designated times.
You won’t have to worry about maid service either. When you travel with your dog, a sticker will be placed on the outside of your room alerting staff that a pet is inside. This way your dog won’t bolt when the door opens.
If you are worried about your dog being alone in a strange hotel while you are at a museum, historic site, or restaurant, you can hire a pet sitter through the hotel. Pet sitting services usually run about $15 an hour, and should be reserved at least a day ahead.
Opening packages for two adults, two children, and a dog at Loews Philadelphia start at $149 per night. All Loews Hotels introduced Loews Loves Pets program in 1990 “because we recognized that for many people, the pet is part of the family and time apart causes stress for the pet and sometimes, for the owner as well,” says Jennifer Hodges, a spokesperson for Loews Hotels.
New York City’s Muse Hotel
The Muse Hotel in New York encourages guests to bring their dogs with them. In addition to pet sitters and dog walkers on call, guests and their dogs can indulge in a side-by-side massage. You and your dog can also enjoy a quiet meal in your room. Chef Patricia Williams creates healthy, organic in-room meals for the hotel’s furry gourmet guests, including turkey meatloaf in the shape of a dog bone, pup-corn snacks for in-room movies, and other treats. Dogs checking in receive chew toys and a furry dog bed delivered to the room.
There’s even a canine concierge—a three pound Pomeranian named Ginger--and her owner concierge Lauren Myerson to point out the best places to explore, from New York’s only doggie playground Canine Court, which has open land and an obstacle course to the best dog runs in Central Park. Rates at The Muse New York start at $229.

Getting There
It's always a smart idea to test the waters before you start out on a journey--especially if you are driving. Your dog may associate car rides with going to the veterinarian. For more information about getting your dog used to and enjoying long car rides, read Road Trips with Your Dog.
